Top Producer 7i/8i® vs. RealeSeller

    This page was put together in order to give you some idea of the differences between the current top selling real estate contact manager, TP7i/8i, and RealeSeller (TP8i features are similar to TP7i).  While the "other guy" has had a 10 year head start on us, we are catching up fast.  By the time 2009 ends, we should have almost every feature we may currently be lacking available.  Our goal is to actually be the best, and not just say we are.  While there might be some advantages to having your contact manager available on the internet, there are a number of reasons why it isn't a good idea and with RealeSeller, you can actually have both if you use a Microsoft Exchange Server. 

   
The first, and foremost 'problem' is "your data is held hostage" if you can't connect, don't pay, or anything goes wrong on the provider side.  While the internet is a fairly dependable place, it only requires one issue to cost you a lot of money.  Can you pull out your laptop and pull up your data anywhere... not if an internet connection is required.  Using a Microsoft Exchange server and RealeSeller you can be anywhere at any time and have your data available.  You don't have to have an internet connection.  While it is true that you have to have access to an Exchange server in order to keep your data synchronized with other team members, this only applies to those that have team members.  Try adding something to your TP8i database and mark it as "private" ... that can't be done.  You share everything or nothing... not so with RealeSeller.  Anything can be marked as "private" so that isn't an issue.

   
Free program updates?  What is free about something that requires you to pay a monthly fee, and you have to commit to a year of service in order to do that.  Stop using it in six months and you still have six more months of paying for something you aren't using.  The cost?  At a bare minimum, TP7i will cost you about $420 every year (TP8i is $479), and that is if you don't buy anything but the contact management portion of the software, and you can't even have an assistant without paying more.  Use the TP7i software for 1 year and stop.  You just tossed out at least $420 (TP7i) and have nothing, $479 with TP8i.  About once every 12 to 18 months we do a major update.  It does cost between $50 and $100 dollars to upgrade, and when you do upgrade, you also get a 1 year service contract for FREE.  But, if the software is currently doing everything you want, you don't have to buy anything... just keep using what you have because you aren't forced to buy anything more or pay and pay and pay some more.

    Online training for RealeSeller is FREE!  With TP8i the cost is $34.95 a class, with 10 available classes.  That's $349 to train, on top of the $479 you just spent for a year of TP8i... Total:  $828  We are working on a DVD so that you can watch the classes over and over.  The DVD is scheduled for release in December 2009.

   
While we have tried very hard to be as accurate as possible, and we believe that everything listed below is accurate, we don't guarantee it to be perfect and without error.  This comparison (119 items / features) is based on RealeSeller version 3.0 or newer and the version of TP7i available as of March 31, 2006.  If you see something that isn't accurate, please let us know and we will attempt to find out exactly what the facts are about the discrepancy found.  If you don't give us any facts and just send us an email without details, we will not make any attempt to change anything or figure out what the discrepancy actually is.  So, if you find something incorrect, be specific about your error report or it will be ignored.  We want to be accurate, but we don't have time to chase down undocumented error reports.  As with anything there are also some exceptions.  We have noted some exceptions and some things that can change the interpretation of the compared feature.  These are generally noted with either small asterisks or numbers.  This list and this page is copyrighted, and is not to be reproduced, reposted, or modified in any way without our written permission.

* TP7i information is downloaded and used every time a user logs in to TP7i. No software?  A Java Applet is running every time you start TP7i.  Turn Java off and try running TP7i. Claim of "no software to install" is misleading and not true. If you want to import something you also have to download software and install it on your computer. If for any reason your internet connection is broken, you can't do business. If you pay more, TP7i can be run on your desktop... another software installation and extra cost. Data is then synchronized when you log back in to your internet database.  Depending on the internet connection, the download can be very, very slow. With a DSL connection, it might require between 15 and 45 seconds, maybe more before the program starts. A broadband connection is "strongly recommended" according to the TP web site.  Trying to use this software with a MODEM would be a waste of time.

** "Team" - TP7i requires team member to log into a single data source where separate data can not be kept. RealeSeller allows team members to have their own private as well as public database.

*** In order to sync data to a PDA, it has to be running the Palm OS and you have to pay for and install extra software. While you can purchase this feature in a bundled charge paying monthly, it is listed at $9.95 a month.

There was a discussion in the RealTalk group about moving data from one CRM to another.  I thought I would re-post my comment here in case anyone has questions about this issue. The discussion was centered on the TP data export... and its associated problems to those that want as much of their data as they can get. You are going to have data loss, some because TP doesn't export everything, and some because the exported data doesn't fit into some field in another program.

I've been importing Top Producer data exports for customers since Version 5. Outlook can't handle most TP data exports unless you severely limit the fields you export... notes? Forget about it! Strange non-standard CSV characters show up in many places and Outlook, and most other systems will just puke when they get to that part. I've also seen many, many exported TP databases that have corrupted sections in the export. I could obviously go on and on since I've been dealing with this problem for years, but you get the picture.

You can get a simplified export to import into Outlook or just about any contact manager, but you lose a lot of information that you don't have to lose. Some "experts" even suggest that loss option is "Ok" ... or not really a big deal. Saying that a list of names and telephone numbers is acceptable after someone has been using something for years is wrong, and I disagree with those kind of statements completely. While you can't save everything that TP exports, the majority of it can be recovered.
